Did you know Hot Cocoa and Hot Chocolate are two different drinks? Hot Cocoa is made with cocoa powder, milk and sugar, that’s how my grandmother used to make it. Hot Chocolate is literally that: chocolate melted in cream, milk or water.
Today I made hot chocolate, I used milk and of course a dollop of whipped cream. Wow that was ridiculous, I literally had to rest for a bit after finishing it, but what else are Sundays for!
Hot Chocolate with Whipped Cream
Ingredients
- 500 ml milk (see notes)
- 100 g dark chocolate
- Whipped cream (optional)
- A drop of whiskey or dark rum (optional)
Instructions
Start by shaving or chopping the chocolate very finely, the finer the quicker it melts.
Heat the milk and when steaming add the chocolate.
On a low heat stir the chocolate through the milk until melted.
When melted, pour in a cup and add a drop of whiskey or rum if you like.
Top off with some whipped cream. Enjoy!
Notes
Any type of mil will do: skimmed milk, soy milk, almond milk. But I feel if I'm going to indulge anyway I might as well do it properly, so I used whole fat milk.
